Player Skill Expectations

An advanced beginner or intermediate pickleball player is expected to have a basic understanding of the game’s rules and scoring. They should be able to serve and return serves with some consistency, though their shots may lack precision and control. Advanced beginner and intermediate players can execute basic forehand and backhand groundstrokes but may struggle with volleys and dinks. Their movement and positioning on the court are developing, and they are beginning to understand the importance of teamwork in doubles play. Overall, advanced beginners focus on keeping the ball in play and gaining comfort with the game’s fundamental techniques.

This league utilizes DUPR to ensure accurate and consistent player ratings, helping to create balanced and competitive matches.

What is DUPR?

DUPR, or the Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating, is a system used to rate pickleball players based on their skill level and match performance. It uses data from players’ match results to calculate a dynamic rating that reflects their current playing ability, ensuring fair and competitive play across different leagues and tournaments.

General Comments

Warmups start at 6:00 PM and games begin promptly at 6:30 PM.

80 players will be on the roster this season with up to 60 playing each week.

This league is open to both female and male players who are ready to have FUN and advance their game to a higher level of play. Every effort will be made to keep each group as coed as possible, but it depends on who signs up to play on any given night.

Players should be familiar with the basic rules and scoring (see the USAPA Rules). Bring your pickleball paddle and plenty of water/hydration. Sunscreen, comfortable attire, and protective glasses are recommended. Balls for play will be provided.

Attendance Policy for Pickleball League

  1. Weekly Attendance:
    • Weekly attendance is encouraged but not mandatory for players.
  2. Sign-Up and Cancellations:
    • Players must sign up for league play using Signup Genius. The coordinator will communicate when the sign-ups open for each week in the welcome email.
    • If a player cancels on the day of the league two times during the season, they will not be permitted to sign up in advance for the remainder of the season.
    • However, if there is an opening on the day of the league, the player can be added to the roster.
  3. No Shows:
    • If a player signs up but does not show up for the league without any communication to the coordinator, they will not be permitted to sign up in advance for the remainder of the season.
    • However, if there is an opening on the day of the league, the player can be added to the roster.

This policy aims to ensure fair play and commitment while providing flexibility for players with unpredictable schedules. Remember, just let the coordinator know as soon as possible if your plans have changed so they can adjust the player matrix.
