Summer is in full swing, and whether you’re beating the heat with early-morning play, squeezing in a few evening games, or simply enjoying time with pickleball friends, we hope this season has brought plenty of good rallies, laughter, and connection on and off the courts.

In this issue, we’re sharing updates you’ll want to keep on your radar: news related to the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors, details about Fall Leagues as registration and league play approach, and a look ahead to our upcoming picnic—a great chance to relax, reconnect, and celebrate our club community.

Fall Leagues are right around the corner!
|
We hope you are getting excited for some fall fun on the courts! Our Fall 2026 Leagues will open for registration at 9:00am on August 1st. As usual, Chesterfield County residents are given priority for leagues. Non-residents may register beginning August 5th.

There have been a few changes, including moving the Serve & Volley Social League from Sunday afternoon to Tuesday evening, and the Beginner League from Friday to Sunday. Please go to the listings on our webpage before Saturday to review the details for the league(s) you are interested in to avoid any surprises on Saturday morning when you're trying to sign up.

We have a couple of new offerings this season. Here are two:
|
- Young Guns was created for competitive players aged 20-35. We recommend players be intermediate/advanced (3.5+ DUPR rating), but understand some players don't have ratings yet, which is okay. This will be a way to test your skills and find your place in the DUPR rating system. We will be reporting to DUPR, so you will have a rating after playing in this league.
- Daytime Super Senior and Senior Ladder has been created as a co-ed, social, and developmental league targeted for level 2.5 – 3.5 players 55 and older. This league was designed for fun, connection and low-stress play. There are two divisions: Seniors, 55+, and Super Seniors, 65+.

Court Maintenance Updates
CTC - Hull Street: We have a new surface! And an upgraded shade curtain!
|
Coming into 2026, these courts were not ready (scheduled) to be resurfaced yet according to the Parks and Rec maintenance timeline; however, our club members who played there repeatedly asked for repairs to the surface. There were divots, cracks, and the painted lines could be slippery. Our players’ first hand experience and the safety concerns led us to make an offer: The Pickleball Club of Chesterfield County would provide the funds for the new surface if Chesterfield County Parks & Rec would negotiate and manage the project. We have built a strong relationship with Parcs & Rec from working together since 2010, and we were grateful for their willingness to collaborate once again. Additionally, they added extensions to the shade structure and we now have larger coverage to cool down out of the hot sun. We hope you are enjoying these improvements.

In the future, the County will be adding more gates, but we don’t have a timetable for that, yet.

Huguenot Park: There are some cracks in the playing surface, which has been reported to Parks & Rec. We are hopeful that these will be addressed soon.

Get to Know Your Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors
|
Do you know which district you are in and who your Supervisor is? Your Supervisor needs to know what matters to you as a Chesterfield County resident regarding pickleball. Sometimes all they hear are the complainers, but I’m sure they would like to feel some appreciation from us, as well as hear our requests.

FYI, our newest supervisor, Dr. Hylton, plays pickleball with his kids, and knowing that he is an athlete, I’ll bet you could talk him into coming out and learning to play the “adult” version. But, PLEASE don’t let him get hurt!

Chesterfield County also has a new County Administrator, Dr. Kevin Catlin, who will take office on August 24th. He will be visiting around the County quite frequently, so when you see him, introduce yourself. Since he will be advising the Board of Supervisors on everything, it will help to be his friend. (Psssst…make sure you tell him about how much you love the County’s pickleball courts!)

One last thought…Have you ever considered offering to serve on the Parks and Rec Advisory Board? As far as we know there has never been a pickleball player serving on the PRAC board, even though the members have always been supportive and kind to us. What a great day that will be when it happens!
|
Remember, those in Chesterfield County government are busy with many, many activities, and they will only know what is important to citizens if we speak up. So contact them and let them know!

Discount Tickets for the PPA Tournament in VA Beach
Get ready for an exciting week of pickleball action as the PPA Tour hits Virginia Beach again October 12-18th. The Virginia Beach venue provides the whole experience of a fun pickleball festival with music, vendors, food trucks, and of course, professional pickleball!
|
- The daily Grounds Pass is only $21.25 (normally $25) plus taxes and the TIXR fee. This gives you admission to the venue for an entire day, access to viewing areas for all amateur matches, viewing of select professional matches outside of Humana Championship Court, Carvana Grandstand Court, and the pro showcase courts. If you can go during the week, Tuesday's Round of 64 will offer you the best opportunity to see the top pros playing in the opening round throughout the venue.
- The VIP tickets for Saturday or Sunday will only set you back $297.50 (plus taxes and the TIXR fee) instead of the regular $350. The VIP perks include reserved courtside seats, lunch, snacks, and coolers stocked with refreshing drinks, including 2 alcoholic drink tickets per day. This option is for you if you want to have prime view of the top players on the Humana championship court in total comfort.
There are other pricing options depending on the day, including a mid-tier "Courtside" ticket.

Labor Day Celebration - September 7th
|
Mark your calendar! Our annual Labor Day celebration will be held at the Scott Pickleball Center at Rockwood Park from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM on September 7th. No sign-up needed. As always, feel free to bring a dish to add to the food spread, and definitely bring the fun!

Levels within each age group are either 3.5 and below OR 4.0 and above.

NOTE: Registration will pause/close when 50 entries are received. Applicants will then be put on a waitlist.

Have you heard the buzz about The Dink, the new Apple TV pickleball comedy starring Jake Johnson and Mary Steenburgen? It sounds like it was made for our crowd: a washed-up tennis pro, a battle over court space, and plenty of pickleball pride. Critics have been split in the most interesting way—Forbes called it a “well-crafted, well-moving comedy,” while The Guardian described it as an “engagingly silly sports comedy.” Online comments have been mixed, as well, so I imagine it might be based on your expectations going in (hint: don’t expect real-world pickleball form… it’s fiction). I think Variety described it best: “cheerfully lightweight” rather than laugh-out-loud funny.

So now we want to know... has anyone in the club watched The Dink yet, and if so, did it land in the kitchen or sail long? Feel free to weigh in on our Facebook post about it.
