? Fall League Registration Opens Saturday, August 2nd

Get excited because tomorrow is The Day! Fall league registration opens at 9am for Chesterfield County residents (non-county residents get to register on August 5th starting at 9am).

What makes our leagues so special? Unforgettable moments and lasting friendships! It’s not just the fun of pickleball and the variety of playing levels – it’s the celebratory high-fives and the camaraderie that blossoms both on and off the court. Players return season after season not only for the thrill of competition but also for the friendships that are forged along the way.

Some of our competitive leagues track DUPR, so you have the chance to improve your standing. And in our social leagues we maximize the fun: theme weeks like wacky socks, sport team tees, and bandana night, just to name a few. There are friendly rivalries that keep the excitement going long after the final point, and some players even choose to continue the fun with post-game socials.

Along with some of our returning favorites like Queens of the Court and Serve and Volleys Co-ed, we have several new leagues, everything from beginner level to competitive leagues. (And here’s a teaser for the Spring season… we plan to have a 20-something competitive league.) We’re sure you’ll find a league that’s perfect for you!

Fees are:
  • $40 per person for individual registrations (Chesterfield County residents)
  • $80 per team for fixed-partner leagues (Chesterfield County residents)
  • $15 add-on fee for non-county residents
Remember: You can register for one league on opening day. You may register for a second or third league on August 9th.

So… set your alarm clock for 9am tomorrow morning and visit the website league page HERE to sign up!

? PCCC Special Events

Red, white and blue spirit was on display at the Fourth of July Picnic & Play event. We had our biggest turnout yet, with over 100 attendees! Paddles were lined up on AND above the racks as people waited for their turn for a first-to-9 point game. There was a lot of enthusiasm and we thank everyone for getting into the fun of it.

Special thanks to Gloria Lambert, Bobbie Sue Oxford, Paul Chertoff, Lisa Murphy, Debra Murphy, Maggie Wojtowicz-Bowen, Tony Tocci, Lynn Anderson, and others who helped organize, set up and clean up for the event.

Please scroll to the bottom to see all the wonderful outfits and smiles from our participants!

Our next club-sponsored event is the annual Labor Day Picnic & Play which will be held at The Scott Pickleball Center at Rockwood Park on September 1st from 8-11am. Enjoy fun and fellowship as we eat, play, and socialize together! We invite you to bring drinks or a dish to pass.

? Carvana PPA tournament coming to VA Beach

Professional pickleball returns to Virginia with the second annual Carvana PPA FASTENRA Virginia Beach Cup, scheduled for October 6-12, 2025.

This event will feature over 40 courts, hosting both amateur and professional pickleball matches within a two-hour drive of Chesterfield.

PCCC is proud to announce that we are the first club in the Richmond area approved to partner with Carvana PPA to promote this tournament. Beginning next weekend, we will offer discounted spectator tickets as well as reduced registration fees for players.

We know we have some outstanding talent here in Chesterfield County and the Greater Richmond area. Anyone interested in participating as players are encouraged to send an email to Dawn to join the waiting list and be among the first to receive the discount codes for registration.

While the final professional rosters have not been determined, this tournament presents an excellent opportunity for attendees to engage with top athletes, including the possibility of meeting and obtaining autographs and photographs with their favorite competitors.

? CTC Awning Project

Here is a brief update with more to come in a separate email.
  • Chesterfield County Parks & Rec replaced the old awning with a new, permanent structure.
  • The renovation was completed ahead of schedule and all courts have reopened, but there are some concerns about shade coverage.
  • Parks & Rc have agreed to look at the situation and will update PCCC as soon as possible.
  • Until then, members are urged to make the best of the situation despite ongoing summer heat challenges.

? Area Fundraising Tournaments in August

At PCCC we believe in supporting worthy causes and do our best to spread the word when we hear of charity pickleball tournaments or fundraisers. There are several upcoming events in the Richmond area and beyond. Here are a few that we know of:

1. Chosen 1 Charity Tournament, August 16-17, Bangers and Dinks.

2. Blessings in Motion Pickleball Fundraiser - August 23, Greencroft Club, Charlottesville.
All Blessings Flow is a Charlottesville-based nonprofit providing medical equipment and supplies to families living with disabilities and serious health conditions.

3. Paddles & Purpose Charity Classic Pickleball Tournament - September 5-7, Bangers and Dinks. Tournament supports Richmond's own Sportable, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, in their mission to make sports accessible and inclusive for individuals with physical disabilities.

For all other types of tournaments, the website pickleballtournaments.com is a general clearing house for many events nationwide.

☑️ PCCC Updates

As you may remember from last month’s newsletter, we have several new faces volunteering as Directors for a variety of roles. This is in response to the growth of the club, which now has more than 2700 members.

We are in the process of updating our website and developing ways to make our club more recognizable to the community. We ask for your patience as we continue navigating these new steps. If you have specific feedback or would like to volunteer your services, please reach out to our Club President, Linda Scott via email at president@chesterfieldpickleball.club.

As always, our website has the current calendar showing when classes are and when open play times are scheduled. Thank you to Susan Profitt for keeping us in the know!

Looking forward to seeing you on the courts,

Linda Scott
