Chesterfield Pickleball Leagues - The Future

Hi member,

As this Spring League season ends we want to thank our League Coordinators for keeping PCCC-sponsored leagues going, and each player for their participation.

We have requested our members in prior communications to consider stepping up to be the League Commissioner.

It is already May, and we are concerned that if no one comes forward Leagues can no longer be offered.

As many of you know, Dave Scott started the first league before we were even a Club, and called it A League of Their Own. It was a hit, growing into two leagues the following year. Simple administration then consisted of signing a waiver and collecting checks from 40-50 players.
Fast forward to 2025 where PCCC sponsors hundreds of league players with the support of Chesterfield Parks and Recreation. This requires insurance and a score of league volunteers to run the leagues and manage on-line registrations.

The keystone to ensuring the leagues run is our League Commissioner. Lynze Kapp did an amazing job following Dave Scott as Commissioner, and we are grateful that Jackie Keenan stepped up to the position for our current Spring season. Jackie only agreed to step in for the Spring season as a stop-gap measure, so we did not have to cancel leagues this Spring.

Now, we need you. If Pickleball Leagues are to continue, we must have a League Commissioner for Fall 2025 and beyond.

This could be a role handled by two community-minded volunteers, who can focus on league setup before registration begins, and oversee the on-line registration process goes smoothly. Our technical wizard Colby Rogness remains on hand to advise on the on-line platform.

Can one or two people within our leagues step into this important role? Here’s some things to think about.

  • Volunteers are present now to help with introducing the new Commissioner to the role
  • MOST of the Commissioner’s activity occurs during the 3 weeks before registration, with communications to the experienced League Coordinators. Much of this work is boilerplate emails which we send for confirmations each year.
  • Coordination with Parks and Rec and court reservations are made by the Board – not the Commissioner
  • This role could be paired with a partner, so the Co-Commissioners could split responsibilities.
  • It’s a key position within this Club, and over 500 league participants enjoy play as a result.
  • It’s a resume builder showcasing your organizational, team-building, and spreadsheet skills.
Please reach out to lead the PCCC as League Commissioner, or with any questions. You can reach me at 804-683-8481.

Thanks,
Linda
