Hi member,

April is National Pickleball Month!

And even more exciting for us... this year we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Pickleball Club of Chesterfield County!

To honor this milestone, the PCCC is hosting a special community event. Come celebrate a decade of dinks, drives, and friendships. The public is invited, so bring along some friends.
  • When: April 11th | 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • Where: Rockwood Park, 3401 Courthouse Rd.
  • The Fun: The Club will provide snacks and soft drinks. We’ll have plenty of rotation play for all members, new and old.
  • Community Demo: We are hosting free demonstrations from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. for anyone interested in learning the game.
Join our lively pickleball community as we honor the incredible impact of the sport we all love at the very courts that first brought pickleball to RVA. Spread the word!

We’re excited to officially kick off our Spring 2026 leagues starting April 1st!

The Commissioners want to extend a warm welcome to all of our players who signed up to be part of this season—we’re looking forward to a fun, competitive, and energetic eight weeks on the courts.

As we get started, here are a few quick reminders to help you have the best experience each week:
  • Bring your paddle
  • Stay hydrated—don’t forget water or a sports drink
  • Apply sunscreen as needed for outdoor play
  • Wear proper court shoes
  • Protective eyewear is highly recommended for safety
We can’t wait to see everyone out there!

A special thank you goes out to our League Coordinators for volunteering to run our Spring 2026 leagues. Your time and dedication make everything possible, and we truly couldn’t do this without you.

We appreciate all that you do and look forward to a great season!

Your Commissioners,
Maggie Wojtowicz-Bowen and Debra Murphy

"Kind Deeds" Kudos & Maintenance Updates

We all know someone who goes above and beyond just because. We have many kind souls and helping hands at the courts. Let's acknowledge the members who quietly perform kind deeds to keep our courts running smoothly:
  • Windsocks & Screens: Enjoy the new windsocks at CTC! These were purchased by PCCC and installed by "Big Dave" Thursam. Also, thanks goes to Greg Walls and his team for repairing the windscreens after the recent windstorm.
  • Towel Service: Huge thanks to Trish Cuenin for laundering the drying towels for the CTC courts! You are the best!
  • The Red Bag: Our first aid kits (bandages/cold packs) are restocked. Look for the large RED pack in the plastic bins at the courts. Please return the kits immediately after use and let us know if supplies run low.
Know a Hero? If you know of others who should be thanked for kind deeds in the name of pickleball, please let us know so we can acknowledge them.

Volunteers Needed

The CTC wind is legendary, and the summer heat is right around the corner. We need a crew to help install the side shade curtains very soon.

If you can lend a hand, please reply directly to this email!

A Message from the PCCC Board

It takes a massive amount of coordination to organize league play. We are happy to have 14 leagues covering men's, women's, co-ed, senior, and beginner, with a balance between social and competitive offerings. This allows over 500 people to enjoy the amazing game of pickleball in our leagues this spring.

To those who didn't get a spot: we understand the disappointment. Court availability was reduced this year per Chesterfield County to ensure more equitable access for the entire pickleball playing community. We appreciate your patience as we balance the needs of our growing sport.

The Board sends out a huge THANK YOU to our League Commissioners and League Coordinators for getting everything lined up for the new season!

We especially want to thank our two Commissioners who are also League Coordinators this season, Debra Murphy and Maggie Wojtowicz-Bowen. These volunteers are doing double duty!

Please thank the following League Coordinators & Supporters when you see them: Ronnie Cummings, Colby Rogness, Morgan Quinn (handling two leagues!), Dwight Gordon, Mark Hannon, Siua Cocker, Bev Moss, Dave Simon, David Kupstas, Tina & Paul DiBello, Erika King, Tina Murray, David Chase, Rick Phelps, Rick Langford, Lisa Donovan, and Gil Bowen.

Last, but not least, thank you to our incredible website guru, Colby Rogness, for covering our back ends on the back end. All your behind-the-scenes work to make the registration process go smoothly is greatly appreciated!

      Pro-Tip: The Paddle Safety Rule

Put your emergency contact number on your paddle. In an emergency, your phone or wallet might not be easy to find, but your paddle is always right there with you.
(If you play in tournaments, be sure to check the current USA Pickleball rules concerning writing on and/or affixing labels to paddles.) Thank you to Gloria Lambert for sharing this vital safety recommendation.

PCCC Calendar & Places to Play

Our team works hard to help area pickleball players find courts to play at. Volunteer Susan Proffitt creates the monthly calendar and has now added a “Places to Play” document to our website.

These two documents can be viewed electronically or downloaded as PDFs. Together they provide information about Chesterfield County pickleball courts, their locations, and the scheduled activities at each of them.

To view these valuable resources, just click at the bottom of the newsletter in the new Quick Links section.

You will also see new buttons that will take you directly to the:
          • Chesterfield County Parks & Rec Activities page (type in “pickleball” to see what classes are coming up), and
          • Pickleball Tournaments website where you can search for tournaments that might interest you.

            *NEW* Quick Links

To wrap up this month’s news, we have a very special update from a beloved Club member, Treasurer, and pickleball coach. In his own words:

Hello my Pickleball friends, just a quick update on myself. I am healing slowly, which is a good sign. I hope that I will be able to get out of my bed into a wheelchair, so that I can get out and come see everyone at some point. I do miss you all as well as the Pickleball leagues.

I hope everyone has a wonderful spring. If you would like to get a hold of me just text me. My phone number is 804-310-6922.

I thank you all for the Pickleball bench in my honor. — Dave King

We know the entire PCCC family joins us in wishing Dave a steady recovery. We can’t wait to see him back at the courts, reclaiming his spot on that bench!

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the courts!

              Linda Scott
              President, PCCC
