Dear Friends and Pickleball Club Members,

It is with deep sadness that I share the news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague, David King.

David often spoke about how much pickleball meant to him, but he truly gave back to the sport and this community far more than he received. For over five years, David served as a dedicated instructor for Chesterfield Parks and Rec, an IPTPA-certified coach, and a coordinator for three leagues, and, for the last year, as our trusted Club Treasurer.

Beyond his titles, Dave was a man of strong convictions and a wonderful listener. While he appreciated the sport itself, he truly cherished the friendships he built on the court. I know I will personally miss his wise counsel and the many conversations where he expressed his gratitude and love for this community.

David King Memorial Fund. We are deeply touched that Dave’s family has named The Pickleball Club of Chesterfield County (PCCC) as a site for donations in his honor. 100% of these donations will go toward a permanent memorial—such as new benches at the locations where Dave taught and played—so that his spirit remains a part of every game.

A Tribute on the Courts David’s family shared that his favorite color was Blue, with Cardinal Red being a close second (as a dedicated Cardinals fan). This week, we invite everyone to wear these colors during league play as a tribute to Dave. Whether you are on the court or just stopping by, let’s fill the facility with the colors he loved. We hope to take a few group photos to share with his family so they can see the sea of support from his pickleball family.

Our hearts go out to Dave’s family during this difficult time: his wife and best friend, Beth; his children, Brian and Abbey, of whom he was so proud; and his dear granddaughters, Savannah and Olivia, whom he hoped would one day choose to take up the game.
