Ah, the leaves are starting to turn… and sometimes gathering in the corners of our courts, LOL! With the beautiful fall foliage comes the crispy, crunchy leaves underfoot, but we’ll take it, because it also means cooler temperatures!
|
In case you missed it, we had a ball at the Labor Day Picnic & Play (pun intended!). At least 75-100 people came and went, the weather was beautiful, and there was a shared sense of community. That is one of the main reasons this club was started: to foster community while having fun playing pickleball. Thanks to all who showed up and contributed your time and energy. Let’s do it again next year!

Fall League Update
Fall leagues are underway and we’ve been fortunate to have mostly good weather, with only one or two cancellations. Please remember that safety is key to having a good time, so make sure you warm-up, stretch, wear good court shoes, and PLEASE wear eye protection. There are many great options out there – we encourage you to make it a priority to protect your eyes!

Pickleball Classes and Open Play in Chesterfield County
Chesterfield Parks and Recreation has some upcoming pickleball classes, boot camps, and a listing of indoor and outdoor places where you can play for free. USA Pickleball - Benefits of Membership

Are you familiar with the USA Pickleball organization? As the governing body, USAP maintains and updates the official rules of the sport. As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, USAP is dedicated to preserving the integrity of the game while advancing its growth and development nationwide.
|
Recently USA Pickleball restructured their membership platform making it more affordable and more meaningful for you to be part of the broader pickleball community. While you can be a member for free, one new perk of the Challenger tier of membership–now only $12–allows you to play at USAP-sanctioned tournaments, including the Golden Ticket events. Some other perks include drills, tips and videos, plus Pickleball magazine for Challenger tier and above. Click HERE for a video with additional information.

CEVA Silent Auction Open through October 4th
FGrab some great deals and support a good cause! Our friends at CEVA (Central Virginia Pickleball in Charlottesville) are partnering with the Albemarle County Parks Foundation to expand their public courts. To raise funds, they have secured some scary good items–sports gear, gift certificates, apparel, experiences, trips, and more–that they have put up on a silent auction. Carvana PPA tournament coming to VA Beach

Last call – time is running out! As a valued member of the Pickleball Club of Chesterfield County, you can save on the purchase of tickets for the upcoming Carvana PPA tournament in Virginia Beach.

Attending a pro event in person is a memorable experience, because you are so close to the action on the court and you get to see your favorite players live!

Good News Story
We want to give a special shout out to Donn Valencia who generously donated nine pickleball paddles to the PE department at a Chesterfield County school. The school was profoundly grateful for this gift that makes it possible for a few more local children to have the opportunity to learn pickleball! Donn, we love that you are a part of our Chesterfield pickleball community!

Bonus Health Tip
Playing indoors or out, it remains essential for us as athletes to monitor our hydration levels during physical activity. According to experts, maintaining electrolyte balance is particularly important. Below is a simple recipe for preparing a natural alternative to commercial sports drinks such as Gatorade. This homemade option is
|
- cost-effective (just pennies per quart)
- supports environmental sustainability by minimizing the use of disposable plastic bottles
- healthier because it has no extra chemicals or stabilizers
**Recipe for a natural sports drink**
|
- 2 quarts water
- 1/2 tsp. pink Himalayan salt
- 1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
- Juice of one lemon (or 2 tsp. bottled)
- Juice of one lime (or 2 tsp. bottled)
- Natural sweetener to taste (stevia, monkfruit, agave)
- 1/2 tsp. apple cider vinegar
Mix well and refrigerate for up to 5 days. Feel free to experiment with different flavors–there are some great organic, freeze-dried fruit powders available at health food stores or online from Amazon.
