Court Etiquette Reminders

1. Please remember to not walk behind players while they are in the middle of a point. Wait, announce yourself, and then proceed with all four players (with ball) at the same time.
2. Stack paddles left to right to indicate next group playing. The left-most paddles are next in line.
3. A group cannot bypass another group, even if there is only one or two in that line. That line must be filled first. If you can't wait, you may have to break up your group this time.
4. We are exploring options for keeping the court sequence clear when the courts are busy and paddle groups must be shifted.

PCCC Purpose and Support of New Venues
As we roll into fall and continue to welcome new members, it’s a good time to reflect on the PURPOSE of PCCC and how we serve that.

Purpose of Club: To organize and promote the sport of pickleball in Chesterfield County, Virginia, for the enjoyment, health and socialization of all players through organized recreational and competitive play, development opportunities for all players and working to expand additional pickleball court venues within the county.

With that in mind, if you find a venue that wants to start pickleball, reach out to us as we can help you get started. If you are a player and your church has a gym, perhaps they would allow a group to play pickleball there. PCCC is interested in churches where a church member would be in charge of the program. Of course you could invite non-members if it is to be an outreach program.
If your church is one of those and is interested in having adults use the facility for pickleball, we can help you with the start up.

PCCC continues to work with Chesterfield County to develop new pickleball courts and renew older ones. With that in mind, do you know of any tennis courts which are not being used? We do not want to take busy courts away from our tennis friends and Parks and Rec would not allow that, but it they truly are not used and are on public property then let us know. We have approached Parks and Rec about refurbishing those old, unused tennis courts in private developments but there are too many restrictions and laws that get in the way of that. This is unfortunate, as there are some great ones, conveniently located that are just an eyesore for the community in their condition. We could put them to great use but as we know, refurbishing courts cost lots of money! Does anyone know of any grants we could write for to this use?

Leagues
We are halfway through the league season. Everyone is having a great time. Some of our league coordinators are so creative in planning their activities! Hopefully we’ll soon be posting league activity photos on our website.
We hope that everyone will consider joining a league in the Spring to that you can see what it's all about and understand the need and enjoyment of league play and how it is promoting Chesterfield pickleball throughout the area. Thanks to our League Commish, Lynze Knapp for continuing to do a great job.

Food Drive
PCCC member Shelly Smith is organizing a food drive. Food pantries around Richmond are very low right now. This drive benefits the Belmont United Methodist Church food pantry. There will be collection boxes at all League locations through October 13. Please help us to help others.
Some needs include: Pancake mix, syrup, cereal, pasta, pasta sauce, rice, canned fruits, canned vegetables, peanut butter, soup, diapers, wipes

Signage on Courts and Shared Play Etiquette
· The PCCC has asked Parks and Rec to install new information boxes at the local courts to house our calendar and other announcements. This will help people understand when courts are available and when they are assigned for other activities.
· Note that going forward NO SIGNS CAN BE POSTED AT THE COURTS. These tend to be an eyesore as they deteriorate. As always, no signs for self-promotion are allowed on County property.
· Parks and Rec will also update the signs to remind all players of the standard for sharing public courts during designated Open Play periods (shown on the PCCC calendar). The rule is to play one game to 11 points when others are waiting, leave the court, and rotate back to a court when it is your turn to play again.

Your Pickleball Rating
Want an immediate and private pickleball rating? Annette, our Louisa County USAP Ambassador shared the following link with me, which was spot on. Just be sure to answer the questions honestly, if you want an honest rating. No one will see this but you. Just go to: https://forms.gle/qp9r99Bgopq5fdtF8

Pickleball Rule Refresher
Some have changed since you learned to play. How about this one which Lynn Dillion, Hanover USAPickleball Ambassador reminded me?

Players may call non-volley zone and service foot faults on their opponents. If they disagree about the called foot fault, a replay shall occur. USA Pickleball Official Rulebook https://usapickleball.org/what-is-pickleball/official-rules/

Tournaments
Lots of tournament activity occurs in the fall. Check our website at chesterfieldpickleball.club for specifics.

Our Website
Colby Rogness made some wonderful changes to our website to facilitate signing up for leagues, and it was a game changer for players, league coordinators, and Club administrators. Now, PCCC member Susan Profitt has agreed to take it a step further. She will be working on making the Chesterfield Pickleball.Club more inviting and user friendly. Chris Terrell set up the website several years ago and Leslie Moore has kept it up. Thank you Chris and Leslie. Now it is time for a makeover! I can't wait to see what Susan comes up with.

See you on the courts!
